In this post I want to share my reaction to One Piece chapter 1179, “The Fall of Nerona Imu”. A chapter I had been waiting for a long time to react to, and which turned out to be exactly as insane as expected.
COVER
The cover shows Ace, Yamato, and Otama guiding a group of piglets along a swamp path. I think I speak for everyone: we don’t really care. Let’s move on to the important stuff.

IMU WANTS TO LEAVE
The chapter begins in the Authority Room of the Holy Land, Mary Geoise, with news that puts the Gorosei on high alert: Imu wants to leave Pangea Castle and descend to the lower world.
This is unprecedented. In everything we’ve seen so far—God Valley, Elbaph—Imu didn’t “go” anywhere, they simply appeared. Actually leaving is something else entirely, and the Gorosei know it. Everyone is nervous, except Garling, who has spent the most time outside that bubble and understands that at this point, there may be no other option.
The situation in the Holy Land doesn’t help either: there is food shortage, Dragon’s Revolutionary Army strategy is working, and the Mother Flame York is handling seems to be a recreation of the original, not the same machine. What they need now is a military force capable of controlling the world, including the former Marine headquarters. A very delicate situation for those supposedly ruling everything.

IMU’S FLASHBACKS
Before leaving, we see a series of images that are not actually Imu’s flashbacks, but rather things we as readers already know: Roger, Luffy, Blackbeard, Nefertari Lily, and the Cobra incident… And a confirmation of what we saw in the previous chapter: Loki, Harald’s son, was the pirate captain attacking Government ships from the mist. That thread is now tied up.
Imu calmly states that everything was inevitable, leaves the Holy Land in charge, and departs. Just like that.
SOMMERS AND THE FROZEN PRISONERS
In Elbaph, things remain tense. One of the demons tries to regroup, and Sommers’ metallic heart is still present, confirming it’s not Haki but literal metal—we already discussed this live. Zoro, please cut it already.
Most importantly: it is confirmed that the prisoners from Pangea Castle, whom we all assumed were from Galley-La, are alive, just frozen. And Ratatoskr’s ice is special: only he can undo it. Loki has to unfreeze them. Clear enough.
THE DESCENT
The sky over Elbaph fills with black clouds, lightning, and a massive magic circle. Imu has their own “music,” literally the counterpart of Nika. Buildings come alive, trees gain wings, children fall due to Conqueror’s Haki—Chopper thankfully doesn’t fall—and even the giants recognize the same Haki they felt before.
Oda has been building this throughout the entire story: every major enemy is a glimpse of Imu’s power. Big Mom was just a preview. Kaido too. Now we see the original.
SAINT NERONA IMU
And here it is. For the first time—truly, with a full face—we see Imu.
White hair, multiple eyes distributed across the body (which reminds me of biblical angel depictions, those beings with wheel-like structures full of eyes, far from how we usually imagine them), a cloak with the symbol of the God’s Knights, a scythe as a weapon, and what appears to be a tail. The belt and pants design feel very Elbaph-like. In the right hand, an eye with small horns, matching the skulls in the background. Three marks run along the arm.

The text confirms it: founder of the World Government, one of the first 20. And their power: the Devil Fruit itself—the source of all Devil Fruits. Not a specific fruit, but the origin. What I’ve always suspected: Imu doesn’t have the Gum-Gum power, they generated it. The original power that later became materialized into fruits. Or something very close to that.
The overall design reminds me more of Soul Eater than One Piece, but in a good way. That “witch reveal” kind of feeling. And the face—nose, mouth, features—still 100% Oda.
My theory about a man in a woman’s body is now disproven. It’s a man, plain and simple.
ONE PIECE IN ITS FINAL STRETCH
This changes everything. Imu personally descending to Elbaph, showing their face and confirming their power in the same chapter… Oda just hit the accelerator hard. Those saying we have 5–6 years left are heavily overestimating. If he wants to end it in a year, he can.
The full in-depth analysis will be in the video, and we’ll discuss it live on Sunday. See you next time!
I hope you share your own reactions and theories about this chapter. Did you expect Imu to look like this? What connections do you think will be revealed in the future? Leave your comments on the YouTube video!
